Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

Image
My favorite story from the selection was The Cunning Crane and the Crab by W. H. D. Rouse. The story is about a crane who fools fish during a hot summer. Since the lake, where the population of fish live at, is extremely hot and at low levels, the crane convinces the fish that he can transport their population to a better lake. Furthermore, each fish was fooled and the crane transported them one by one. Unfortunately, the crane wasn't really taking the fish to a new lake. Instead, he would eat them and disregard the skeleton. When the population of fish was cleared out and consumed, the crane wanted more. He found a crab and attempted to capture it with his persuasive foolery. The crab was too intelligent and compromised that the only way he will let him transport him to another lake would be if he could a hold onto the crane with his claws on his neck. In conclusion, the crab executes the crane because of his deceiving ways. I really enjoyed this story because of the theme it por

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
The Ramayana I am choosing to read is going to be the Public Domain Edition. I chose this option of the Ramayana because it's free. Spending money for a book compared to not spending money on a book is an easy option. The first comic book I chose from Bizzell Comic books was Vali: The Downfall of an Arrogant King . This comic book stood out to me the most because I liked the plot. The reading guide kept me intrigued due to the consistent battles against Vali. The second comic book I chose from Bizzell Comic books was The Sons of Rama: Luv and Kush — The Invincible Twins . I chose this story because the title stood out to me. The story was intriguing because it involved Rama, the same person who killed Vali in the story above. Rama got rid of his own pregnant wife and gave birth to Luv and Kush. Towards the end of the story, Rama was challenging his own sons without knowing who they were.  The first youtube video that I watched was Harry Potter Meets Hindu Mythology | EPIFIED . I ch

Time Strategies

Image
Time management strategies are essential and extremely convenient for a busy college student. As everyone knows, time goes by really quick, especially if you're spending it on things that are not useful and productive. College costs a significant amount, so anything that would increase your success in graduating should be a priority. The time management schedule for the 6 weekly hours spent for this course is a great idea. I plan on using my planned schedule for this class throughout the term.  In 3 Steps to Recapture Time , Joynicole Martinez emphasizes being able to say no. I think this was the most important point in the article. Being able to say no is really hard, especially when you actually really want to do something else other than your priorities. Joynicole also emphasizes on the first 15 minutes of the day. In order to manifest the day, you want to have a right and clear mind. Priorities like school already come with stress, any extra stress is undesirable and should be

Technology Update

Image
I am familiar with most of the technology being used in this class. I have done research and implemented corresponding citations along with it. The online environment is normal to me now. I personally feel like I don't learn as well or as quick, but it is something I have overcome. Online courses seem clustered to me because there is so much going on through canvas now. I don't have any particular web skills I need to work on unless we'll be using excel.  I'm Not a Player, I Just Blog A Lot by J. Money in 2011.

Assignments Opinion

Image
I am most intrigued by retelling stories in this class. I've never really taken a class that gets this creative with writing since my freshman and sophomore year in college. It's interesting and unique how we write blogs in this class as our weekly assignments. It makes the class less dreadful. The extra credit is such a great opportunity. I definitely plan on taking advantage of being able to finish the course early.  DISCIPLINE by Jim Rohn

Growth Mindset

Image
This is the first time I have heard about Carol Dweck and growth mindset. On a spectrum of growth-fixed mindset, I believe I am more growth orientated. I tend to push myself to defeat difficulties in order to feel a sense of accomplishment. I personally know when something is too easy for me and I know I need to try a little bit harder. For example, in my school work, I'll work through practice problems that are slightly more basic than what I should expect to see on an exam. Then, I begin to work on more intricate or difficult problems, so I avoid telling myself that I can't understand the concept. I tend to take it step by step so I don't over work my brain and think about it too much. I feel like having a "I'll get there" mentality is a lot better for personal morale. I agree with Dweck's "not yet" mentality because it does give every kid a chance to give it a shot and not feel dumb if they do it incorrectly. A fixed mindset can be dangerous

Introduction to the Life of AJ

Image
Welcome to my life! My name is AJ Hernandez and I am 21 years old. My birthday is November 21st and I was welcomed into this world in 1998. I was born and raised in a growing city, Tulsa, Oklahoma. I lived in the same house for all 21 years that I lived in Tulsa. Fun fact, I have the coordinates to that house tattooed on my right tricep. Another fun fact, my sister's also have the same tattoo! The most important thing in my life would be my family. Both of my parent's and both of my sister's have contributed significantly to my life and I will forever cherish them. I grew up playing soccer and I played throughout high school.  Fun fact, I am 6 foot 5 inches tall. Now, back to where we were. Soccer has to be the second most important thing to me because I have always been around it since a young age. I was raised as a Catholic and I continue with strong faith! Religion has always been important to me because it helps me have a clear mind. Nonetheless, I was raised to be disc

My Storybook Favorites

Image
In D3M0N BR07H3RS , the author did an outstanding job attracting the audience using a unique title. The title caught my eye and it made me want to go ahead and read this blog. The author wasn't a choppy or straightforward story-teller. Rather, they kept me engaged because of the descriptive and detailed writing style. I was able to perceive the text like I was an adventuring with the characters that were visiting the temple. Towards the end of the introduction, the writing style used also complemented the blog. The author attempts to connect with the reader by foreshadowing the tale by using the stories or scriptures that were left. Nonetheless, I like the on-edge theme the story holds because it keeps readers that like suspense attained, such as me.  The Karma Times really left me impressed. The writer uses the natural world fallacy, karma, as a first person character. Karma possesses a personality that accurately resembles the actual process of the natural world karma. The auth

My Favorite Place - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Image
I have called Tulsa, Oklahoma home almost my entire life. After nearly two decades later, I moved away a couple hours for college. Time away from the city I call my own was pretty exciting and it was a much needed change. Although, after a month or so in my new apartment in a new city, I realized that Tulsa, Oklahoma is a place that I will never forget. It is amazing to think about the different memories, trials, and tribulations that I have experienced in one spot my entire life. That is why I would confidently say that Tulsa, Oklahoma is my favorite place. More specifically, Downtown Tulsa is most likely my favorite area within the city's limits and it is where I spend most my free and fun time at. It's an amazing and memorable experience because of the diverse and energetic ambiance Downtown Tulsa provides. Furthermore, I haven't planned ahead about where I would reside in the future, but Tulsa, Oklahoma will always be my favorite place because it shaped me into the pers
