Introduction to the Life of AJ

Welcome to my life!

My name is AJ Hernandez and I am 21 years old. My birthday is November 21st and I was welcomed into this world in 1998. I was born and raised in a growing city, Tulsa, Oklahoma. I lived in the same house for all 21 years that I lived in Tulsa. Fun fact, I have the coordinates to that house tattooed on my right tricep. Another fun fact, my sister's also have the same tattoo! The most important thing in my life would be my family. Both of my parent's and both of my sister's have contributed significantly to my life and I will forever cherish them. I grew up playing soccer and I played throughout high school.  Fun fact, I am 6 foot 5 inches tall. Now, back to where we were. Soccer has to be the second most important thing to me because I have always been around it since a young age. I was raised as a Catholic and I continue with strong faith! Religion has always been important to me because it helps me have a clear mind. Nonetheless, I was raised to be disciplined, respectful, and productive.

Moving on. I currently like to workout consistently, play outdoor activities, and focus on school. I've been working out since the beginning of my high school years. I continue to do it because I am a firm believer of the saying "health is wealth." I don't necessarily have any set goals to reach with my fitness, but I just like to keep my heart and body healthy. I think the hardest part about being healthy is eating the correct food (LOL). I also like to spend my free time being outdoors. My friends and I are all soccer enthusiasts so we like to play plenty of soccer, or the way we like to call it, "footy." We also like to play competitive matches of sand volleyball because it's seasonal. Quick side note, my friends I have all known each other since our childhood's. Other than hobbies like working out or soccer, I am also a full time student. This fall semester is the first semester of my senior year. I am currently working on my bachelors degree in Biology. I had to take a couple of summer courses, but it looks like I should be graduating in the spring! Graduating from college has always been huge goal of mine because I would be the first in my family to graduate from a four year university. Besides my hobbies and school, I have also been trying my best to stay quarantined during this pandemic!

I have always been a planner. I like to plan ahead and set long term goals for myself so I can keep myself productive at all times. I plan on applying to the University of Oklahoma's medical school program after a gap year. I've always wanted to be a doctor since I was younger and I'd like to make my dream come true. My mindset has always been mature since I was younger and I'd like to take advantage of that.

To end my introduction, I'd like to share my favorite motto from one of my favorite music artists.

A$AP.

Always strive and prosper.

  1. That is so cool about your matching tattoos, AJ! There was a student who took this class one year ago because he knew he wanted to get a tattoo of an Indian god, but he didn't know which one... so he took this class! I thought that was such a great goal. (He ended up getting a Ganesha tattoo; Ganesha is the elephant-headed god, son of Shiva.) And congratulations also on being the first in your family to graduate from a four-year school: that is such a great accomplishment at any time, and even more so in this impossible pandemic. And there are a lot of pre-med students in this class: I always hope that learning about the stories of India might help to connect with your future patients with South Asian heritage (you will recognize a lot of names!)... plus you might even want to learn about the Indian god of medicine: Dhanvantari link ... he was created during the cosmic Churning of the Ocean - link... a very cool story you might want to explore later this semester! :-)

  2. Hey AJ super nice to meet you! We definitely have some things in common, I also love to play footy and have been doing so since before the first grade. There's not much better out there than getting outside on a nice pitch with your friends. I have tried working out before, but as you mentioned a huge part of it is eating right, and that is definitely where me and lifting did not get along. Safe to say i no longer lift, but I definitely applaud you for your discipline and commitment to your health!
Anyways, again it was great meeting you!
    Best,
    Saad

  3. Hi AJ,

It sounds like you have a wonderful family and friends. I never really got into sports but I also try to stay healthy. When it comes to food, the difficult part for me is portion control. Sometimes it's hard to stop eating good food. A gap year sounds really nice. I imagine it'd be nice to relax for a year before jumping into med school. I wish you the best of luck.

  4. Aj,

It was so nice to meet you. I also value my family and they are the most important thing in my life. I love sports and I also enjoy working out and staying active. I also love soccer, I played my whole life and actually went to play college soccer in Texas, where I am from. Take the gap year and come back stronger than ever for Med school. Hope you're staying safe during this year. Goodluck with everything.

  5. Hi AJ, I agree that having a healthy body is so important! I personally like to run and play tennis, but I can agree that the hardest part is watching what you eat! Also that is so cool that you and your sister have a tattoo to commemorate your house. Family is also something that is very important to me, and a house is integral part of that. Nice to meet you and good luck this semester!

  6. Hi AJ!
I am also born and raised in Tulsa, except I moved once, so you have me beat there. My favorite hobbies are being outside, spending time with my family and loved ones, and working out, so I can definitely appreciate how you spend your time! Congratulations on being the first person to graduate from college in your family. That is absolutely amazing. I am also applying to OU's medical school for this coming fall, so if all goes well for both of us, I will see you there!

  7. Hi AJ,

That's so cool that you have a tattoo of the coordinates to your house! I had not really ever planned on getting a tattoo myself before, although recently I have begun to take interest in possibly getting a small tattoo on my wrist.... guess I'll have to wait until the pandemic is over! Good luck with your med school applications and I hope you are doing well!

  8. Hey Aj! Our birthdays are only three days apart and I also grew up in Tulsa.
I think the coordinates to your house being tattooed might be one of the best tattoo ideas I've ever heard of haha. I'm jealous of your healthy lifestyle, because it's not always so easy to keep up with that. Great job on being the first person to go to a four-year university as well! I'm sure it can be a lot of pressure sometimes, but you sound like a dude whose got it figured out. Good luck for the rest of this crazy semester!

  9. Hey AJ! It was nice to read someone who is also planning on applying to medical school after they graduate and I wish you the best man! Also I really like how you approach fitness as something to keep your mind and body healthy and I liked the quote you live by, "health is wealth." I look forward to reading your posts this semester! Continue to strive and prosper!

  10. Hey AJ!
So nice to meet you! That picture is pretty hilarious, not gonna lie. I see you are a Sagittarius! So close to being a Scorpio, like me. My birthday is the 26th of October, so not too far apart. I also struggle with eating the best that I know I should. I love the mini biography of you at the start of your introduction, it feel I know everything about you and your life, haha. The tattoo idea is super cool, first of all, and not that I want to copy your idea, but I feel a bit inspired! Anyways, nice to meet you!

  11. Hey, AJ!

I really commend you on being the first in the family to graduate from a four-year university! It's an impressive accomplishment for sure, and you have a lot to be proud of! I am also heading into the fall of my senior year, and I am set to graduate in May 2021. The end is very near and I'm sure that you're feeling just as ready as I am to be done!

I also commend your ability to staying fit and eating healthy! Some number of years back, I lost about 40 lbs in a year and it took a lot of exercise and dieting commitment, so I know the grind! Best of luck sticking with it!

    Cheers,

    Chris

  12. Hello AJ,
It's always great to meet fellow peers and students that are also from Tulsa! I'm closer to the BA area, but I definitely do not respect that city as much as you respect Tulsa. I think that it's so cool that you have your home's coordinates tattooed! In the future, I want to be able to find something meaningful enough to me to have it tattooed on my body forever also! :)

  13. Hello Aj, nice to meet you. You seem like a very fun and outgoing person. I am also from Tulsa, OK, so that is cool. Your picture at the end is hilarious and would explain half of my life. I liked your fun fact about the matching tattoos. Sibling love is so good to see, knowing that I am a sibling myself.

  14. Hi AJ!
Wow, I always find it amazing when I learn that someone has stayed in the same place for a long amount of time! I am sure you have gotten to know Tulsa like the back of your hand! I unfortunately was not so lucky. My dad was in the military, so we were consistently moving from place to place. I look forward to reading your work!

  15. Hi AJ! I am also from Tulsa, and have basically lived here my entire life. I lived in a few different houses while in Tulsa, but I had a really hard time moving from my last house into my current one, as it was the house I'd lived in for most of my life. I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to leave a house you lived in your entire life, but I love that you got matching tattoos! Wishing you good luck in the future!

  16. Hi AJ! That is a great accomplishment that you are going to be the first person in your family to graduate from a four year university. I think it's really sweet that you and your friends have known each other for so long. Have you ever heard that if you have a friend for seven years then they're likely a forever friend? I only have a few friends that I have been close with for that long so that's super awesome that you have such a solid group. I laughed at the picture you posted, so that definitely showed me a lot about your sense of humor! I can't wait to read some of your work!

  17. Hi AJ,

You seem like a very unique person. It's nice to see someone be as unique as you are. I would never have gotten a tattoo of the coordinates to my house. I understand the importance that you put on family, I'm the same way. I think it's great that you work out and put time and effort into making yourself healthier. I look forward to reading your stories and seeing the amount of energy you can put into the posts as well!

  18. Hey AJ, I think it's awesome how you continue to prioritize your faith and it sounds like it shines through your relationships with family, friends, and your academic success. I also enjoy maintaining a healthy lifestyle because I think it keeps the rest of my life on track. If you haven't already participated in OU's intramural sports, you should check out the soccer program they have! I also grew up playing competitive soccer and the intramural sports that OU offers allows me to continue playing the sport I love. Best of luck with the rest of the semester!

  19. Hi AJ!

I am so envious of you that you grew up in the same house for all of your life. I moved around constantly as a child so it's really awesome that you were able to stay in one consistent place. I'm also so interested in the fact that you're deciding to take a gap year between your senior year and med school. I think that it is honestly an excellent idea and something that I would even like to try for myself, but I'm not even sure if I would ever go back, you know?

I hope you're doing well! It was great to meet you!
