Microfiction: Late Night Thoughts

100 Word Dabble:

No Questions Asked Please

The officer tells the adolescent, "I'm assuming you're quiet because you know that your actions were incorrect and require consequences." The adolescent continues to look out the window reminiscing on the way to the local jail. "Do you feel cool now? Was it worth earning a few bucks just to end up locked in a cell?, says the officer. His partner chuckled softly. The adolescent looks at the officer with pain in his eyes and replies, "I rather risk being locked in a jail cell than seeing my siblings starve for another day. Don't judge someone without knowing their story."

Two Sentence Story:

The Process

What's more important? The flower or the soil that grows it?

Bibliography:

One Way Flight by Benny the Butcher (feat. Freddie Gibbs) on Apple Music

Author's Note: The first story, "No Questions Asked Please," was just a story I came up with. I see people on a day to day basis judge others for their appearance or their actions in their doings. I am a firm believer that this isn't fair. There isn't a human on this earth that fully knows someone else enough to place an opinion over them in the air. From politics and religion to daily life doings, someone's purpose isn't up for debate. Period. Furthermore, my second story, "The Process," is an inspirational lyric I stumbled upon. Benny the Butcher isn't one of my favorite artists, but I really like the song because of the message. I believe that someone could sit on that question and answer it themselves for motivation or wisdom, which is why I thought it would be a great idea to share. I hope you guys enjoy these two stories I wrote up during these snow days!

  1. Hey AJ, you did an awesome job of using your creative writing skills throughout this entire microfiction! At times, I find it difficult to come up with a topic for microfictions, so it's helpful to see where you came up with the first story. Lyrics can be so impactful and I think it's really cool with what you did for your two-sentence story. Reading into lyrics that stick out to you can lead to so many possibilities; personally, to answer Benny the Butcher's question, I believe the answer is BOTH! It takes soil (mistakes and experiences) to create flowers (beautiful humans or creatures who learn from those mistakes or set backs).

  2. Hi AJ!

I really enjoyed the first half of your story. Even though it was super short, I was still invested in what was going on from the first sentence which doesn't normally happen for me when it comes to super short stories like that. I also think that the whole reason behind why you decided to write that story is rocking. Keep up the good work!

  3. Wow Aj!
I haven't seen any stories quite like these one this semester. The two sentence story you made is very deep and provides way more context than the small amount of words that are provided. I like the style that you use and I think it takes a really creative mind to come up with something like this.Keep up the good work.
